Guilford has a full-time tax collector that works under the administrative direction of the state Office of Policy and Management, the Board of Selectmen and town counsel.
The primary responsibility of this position is the billing for and collection of all tax money due the town. This official may only be removed for just cause.
Taxes
Each year, within 10 days after adoption of the annual budget, the Board of Finance must set a tax rate which will yield enough money to pay for all the town's operating expense, plus that portion of its capital needs to be met from direct taxation, as well as its current debt service.The mill rate is 22.36 on the 2011 Grand List with the taxes due July 1, 2012 and January 1, 2013.
