Lake Quonnipaug Closed August 14, 2019

The Town of Guilford will be conducting treatment of the Aquatic Invasive Plants in Lake Quonnipaug, weather dependent, on August 14, 2019.  The areas being treated are the north end of the lake, the shoal area south of the swimming area, and the southern channel along the south end of the lake. There are no chemical label restrictions for recreation, swimming, and boating, however, it is preferable not to have anyone in the water while the lake is being  treated for operational safety.   The contractor also advises to avoid use of the water on the day of the treatment for swimming and other water contact activities, drinking, fishing, livestock watering, and irrigation.  Do not use the water for livestock watering for 1 day after treatment, drinking for 3 days after treatment, irrigation to turf and ornamentals for 3 days after treatment, and irrigation to food crops for 5 days after treatment. This work is being conducted under a Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Permit.  Signs will be placed at the public access areas  the day of the  treatment.
