Harvesting History at the Henry Whitfield Museum

Guilford, CT – Travel back to the early 1600s at Connecticut’s own Pilgrim-era museum when the Henry Whitfield State Museum presents Harvesting History on Thanksgiving Friday, November 24th, from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm. Taste samples of traditional English and Native American foods, including pemmican, pumpkin pie, popcorn, cornbread, sunflower seeds, walnuts, and apple cider. Hear hourly readings of the “Pilgrim Cat” storybook. Touch reproductions of English and Native American trade items, including clothing, tools, and household implements used by both cultures in daily living. Write with a quill pen to “Make Your Marke,” designing a personal symbol like Native American sachems did on treaties with the English. Learn about the myths and origins of our Thanksgiving traditions in the display “Holidaze: The Real Story of Halloween, Thanksgiving & Christmas.” Complete a scavenger hunt while taking a self-guided tour of the 1639 Whitfield House.
This program is appropriate for all ages. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and college students, $5 for children ages 6 to 17, and free for those 5 and younger. Parking is free at the museum, located at 248 Old Whitfield Street in Guilford (exit 58 off I-95).
