The Parks and Recreation Commission is considering building a disc golf course in the wooded areas at Bittner Park. The course would utilize existing trails for access to the tees and baskets. One or two small trail spurs may be closed or moved to continue to accommodate hikers.
The course would be spread out along the area west of the soccer field below and above the ridge, west of the skate park, and to the north of the skate park up to the stream that separates the Bittner Park area from the trails on the Baldwin School property. None of the course will be on the Baldwin School property . There are 2 proposed fairways along the violet trail going west toward Long Hill Road.
The Parks and Recreation Commission, along with the Town Environmental Planner, plans to create the first fairway for the public to see what the course may look like. The fairway is marked and posted for removal of brush and small trees. The work can begin after June 4th. All large trees will remain. But saplings, brush and smaller trees may be removed in approximately a 40’ wide area.
The Parks and Recreation Commission will host a walk of the first fairway and other proposed areas of the disc golf course for the public to see what is planned. The walk will be on June 25 at 5:30 PM. A public information session and hearing will be scheduled on a later date, and application will be made to the Inland Wetlands Commission and the Planning and Zoning Commission in the summer.
This information is being posted so the residents can be made aware of the Parks and Recreation Commission plans for the disc golf course. Any questions can be addressed to Rick Maynard at email@example.com.
