Notice: **Waste Motor Oil and Antifreeze will no longer be accepted for recycling at the Transfer Station. Waste Oil and Antifreeze can be disposed at HAZWASTE Central on Sargent Drive on Saturdays from May 12 until October 27. There will be no charge for disposal.**
Although the town has no public rubbish pick-up service; the town does maintain the transfer station, where garbage is received and compacted before being trucked to a plant in Hartford, CT. The transfer station is for the use of residents and private contractors who collect trash from Guilford homes.
The fee effective July 1, 1997, for dumping 100 pounds is $7.
The Transfer Station only accepts credit/debit cards, local check and tickets, which can be purchased at the Guilford Town Clerk’s Office or Madison Building Department. Cash is not accepted.
Single Stream Recycling Information – What is acceptable and items that are prohibited.
The town does not charge residents who drop off fewer than seven televisions or electronics at the Recycling Center.
There is no longer a dumpster at the Recycling Station for used books. However, books that are in SALEABLE condition can be dropped off at the Guilford Free Library any time during library hours. “Saleable” books are contemporary and vintage books that are: NOT dirty, moldy, sticky, chewed, stained, browned, torn, underlined, or highlighted. And please, no magazines or videos.
A receipt is always provided for your tax returns.
Donations are sold by the Friends of the Guilford Free Library to benefit programs and acquisitions of the Library.
Books not in saleable condition as well as magazines can be disposed of with other recyclables at the Recycling Station.
Located on Sullivan Drive. The hours of operation are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. It is not open during inclement weather. Cash is not accepted. You can pay by check or buy a Brush & Leaf Trip ticket at Town Hall South.

There is no charge for disposal of leaves in biodegradable paper bags. The charge for disposal of brush is based on the size of the vehicle delivering it. Leaves may be deposited at the site on Sullivan Drive, which is off of Goose Lane, at no charge.
