The Guilford Human Resources Department is responsible for personnel activities of (non-education) individuals working for the Town of Guilford.

Both Full-Time and Part-Time Permanent Positions (with the exception of Board of Education and Police and Fire Department personnel) are posted by the Director of Human Resources. All such job opportunities are posted on bulletin boards in the Town Hall, sent by e-mail to Town Employees, and listed for at least one week on this website. On a case by case basis, it is often determined to extend such employment opportunities to  other websites or  professional organizations.

A position must be regularly scheduled permanent position of a minimum of 30 hours or more per week to be considered full-time and receive full benefits including, but not limited to, vacation time, medical insurance, life insurance, and a retirement plan.

Most full-time positions are scheduled for either 35 or 40 hours per week.

Executive (non-education) Full-Time positions consist of:

  • First Selectman
  • Finance Director
  • Director of Human Resources
  • In-House Counsel
  • Chief of Police
  • Deputy Chief of Police
  • Fire Chief/Fire Marshal
  • Assistant Fire Chief

In addition, five other employees are considered to be Confidential Non-Supervisors.

All other (non-education) Full-Time personnel (and Part-Time personnel regularly scheduled for a minimum of twenty-four hours per week) are represented by the following collective bargaining groups:

  • Guilford Supervisors Association (GSA)
  • Guilford Employee Association (GEA)
  • Council 15, AFSCME, AFL-CIO (Police Officers)
  • International Association of Fire Fighters, IAFF Local 4177 (Firefighters)
  • United Public Service Employees Union, Local 424-Unit 92 (Communications and Police Dispatchers)
  • Teamsters, Chauffeurs, Warehousemen, and Helpers, Local No. 443 (Public Works)

The Director of Human Resources is responsible for administering all (non-education) personnel records, employee benefits, health insurance options, and retirement information.

The Director of Human Resources reports directly to the First Selectman and is a member of the Employee Safety Committee and the Wellness Committee. The Director of Human Resources makes reports regularly to the Board of Selectmen and the Pension Committee.
